The Year of Dragon 2024

Lunar New Year is one of the biggest festivals celebrated around the world. It is also a big part of Cambodian people's celebration. This year “Dragon” is the main character.

As usual, each character features Chinese New Year elements such as tangerine, tea, lucky cat, and longevity noodles.

Sweet Tea

Symbolize hope that the following year will also be sweet!

Lucky Cat

Symbolize good fortune and prosperity into households.

Tangerines & Red Envelopes

Tangerines symbolize good luck and happiness while the red color of envelopes symbolize good luck and ward off evil spirit.

Longevity Noodles

Symbolize long life. The longer your noodle, the better.

Below are the process:

• Sketches: I like using 14B pencil to sketch and adhesive spray to seal the drawing and protect the drawing from fading.

• Define the line in digital: to refine each line from sketching, make it easier for tracing step later and remove any unnecessary parts.

• Painting: I used combination of Holbein’s and MIYA gouache to get all colors I want.

• To complete the artwork: digital retouch and color grade.
